Sunday Is For Car Stuff
I’m a bit of an early riser, and since lately my IS300 has actually been drivable, I figured I’d make the most of it and hit two meets in one Sunday on 6/4. First up was the early morning cars & coffee at HPS. I felt like this meet wasn’t super well promoted and I almost missed it until I saw mention from Ken Gushi that he’d be bringing out his 1J powered Samsonas equipped IS300 so I decided I had to make the drive up from Costa Mesa. Despite the early hour there was a pretty good turn out with a nice variety of cars in attendance.
The IS300 bias will be obvious in this post. Sorry not sorry. Sean Adriano, Ken Gushi, and Meng all brought out their (much nicer than mine) IS300s. This was the first time I’d seen Ken’s in person and it’s undeniably badass to rip around on the street with a Samsonas and Wisefab.
Photo god Larry Chen’s HKS GR86 was a pleasant surprise to see. Shot on a Canon, naturally.
I grew up with a few dudes who owned and obsessed over RX7s and I think that rubbed off on me at an early age. This pairing of an FC and FD pleased me.
This hatch was powered by a turbo K swap and looked nice with a classic RPF1 and meaty Toyo combination.
The new Z is growing on me. I like everything but the grill. Something that will (hopefully) easily be remedied in the aftermarket.
After leaving HPS in Baldwin Park I headed east to Rancho Cucamonga(with a quick detour to partake in Harbor Freight’s sidewalk sale) to Art of Attack for the RS Future/Super Street Blurred Lines meet.
I got there as things were just picking up and I could immediately tell that it was worth the trip. The event was described as a celebration of out-of-the-box thinkers and outcasts and there were certainly some unique builds that fit the bill.
This is something I would describe as an out of the box car. Corvette, 2J, Super Advans, right hand drive, Brides, and one hell of an interesting rear suspension setup. I’ve been hearing about this car for years. Paco Ibarra is a mad man.
A turbocharged VQ is not what I expected to see in an S15 when I woke up this morning.
There’s something about this car that I really enjoy every time I see it.
Coming from Colorado and growing up when I did, it was inevitable that DSMs would be a big thing for me. I owned several. Never got a chance to own a 3000GT though and this Pit Road M styled version kind of makes me regret that. Really dig the Veilside seats as well. Not a car you see a lot these days and I enjoyed it.
After a quick cruise around I packed it up and drove an hour back to Orange County. Two solid meets in one Sunday and my car didn’t even break down. What luck. More images in the gallery below!
